the final ten
The next round started immediately and it was all I Will Survive. We were told we had to recite the lyrics in our character to the panel. Back in the queue again behind the TARDIS doors, it was even more intense than before and a lot warmer as they had turned the air con off. Everyone was consulting the lyric sheets and preparing, it was good to hear they had an ‘idiot board’ but it was still a daunting task.
Fifth on this time, walking through the doors again I realised that reliance on the idiot board was a bit of waste of time as the mask made it a little difficult to see in the shadows of the studio. Strangely though, as I began the song, the words just seemed to flow. The panel asked for me to try different things and a one point John came down and danced with me, which was the highlight of my day so far. I took all they said on board and kept on going, to the point where John stopped me as they said I was beginning to sing the song. He also queried whether I had sung the song anywhere before?!
More rounds of interviews followed and again I didn’t get to see anyone else’s performances. We were sat in another green room behind the studios whilst the interviews were going on. We were told that we had to think of an answer to the statement ‘I should not be exterminated because….’. This was to be the final three tiebreaker of sorts. Everyone was busy chatting to the production staff about what they wanted to say. I decided to use my character’s background of an arms dealer and demand I be allowed to exploit capitalism like humans do already.
With that statement floating around in my head, we were asked back into the studio. Standing backstage, we all chatted nervously before we were quickly ushered back to our spaces. The same process happened again, John read out the names of those exterminated until, looking to my left, I realised I was in the final three.
